Chatham, NH -- The Chatham Historical Society is proud to present its 2025 Art Show & Craft Fair—a vibrant celebration of local art, creativity, and community spirit! This three-day event invites residents and visitors alike to enjoy a unique display of artwork and handmade goods in the heart of Chatham.

Historic quilts will be examined, discussed, and explained by Pam Weeks, in a New Hampshire Humanities program sponsored by the Chatham Historical Society and the Chatham Congregational Church.
Weeks is the Binney Family Curator of the New England Quilt Museum, as well as a quilter, fabric artist, quilt historian, and state-juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.
She will be speaking on the history of fabrics, quilting through the ages, and will be showing her quilts throughout her talk. She encourages the public to bring any old or family quilts to display and add to the program. As an expert historian, Weeks will answer any questions about quilts.
Weeks is the Binney Family Curator of the New England Quilt Museum, as well as a quilter, fabric artist, quilt historian, and state-juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.

On her website, www.portablepatchwork.com, Weeks writes, “Quilts have been the focus for more than half of my life. I started making quilts as a result of the craft revival inspired by the Bicentennial in 1976. By the mid-1980s I was designing my own work. In 1991 I took a class on reproducing antique quilts and was hooked on quilt history. This led to research on “potholder” quilts, and even the Civil War. Quilts tell stories, from women's work during the Civil War to tales of western migration and industrial history. My first book was published in 2013 on Civil War quilts made for soldiers. My next book will be out soon.”

We will start off the summer with some limited raffles. A maximum of 100 tickets will be sold for each item. The moose is $5 per ticket, all the others $1. The drawing will take place at the town picnic on September 11, 2021.

Little Red Wagon Raffle
We have received another wonderful donation for a raffle. It is a shiny-new little red wagon! A perfect gift for a child or grandchild!
We will sell a maximum of 50 tickets, $5 each. We will hold the drawing on December 19th, or sooner if tickets sell out and we have collected all payments.

Virtual Ice Cream Social!
CHS is keeping up our tradition of an Ice Cream Social and Stories of Chatham with a twist this summer: to keep everyone safe - physically distant, but socially close - we will have a virtual Ice Cream Social on August 21.
The ice cream will be made and donated by Bob Benes. Pints of vanilla, red raspberry, blueberry, and maple walnut must be pre-ordered for curbside pickup at the CHS schoolhouse at 1061 Main Road, Chatham between 5:30 and 6:30 PM on the 21st. The maple syrup has been donated by Dale McClure and the berries donated by the Maloney-Hill family. The ice cream will sell for $4 per pint, with a limit of two pints per family, and can be ordered by calling 603-694-3388. Orders must be in by August 19. Payment is due at pickup.
The Society encourages everyone to snap a photo of themselves with their family or housemates that evening and post it on the Chatham NH Historical Society Facebook page, and include their connection to Chatham and a memory of Chatham. Those not on Facebook can email their photo and memory to the Society at chathamnhhistoricalsociety@gmail.com, or call 603-694-3388 to share their memories.
President Jeanne Eastman says, “This will require community participation, and it has the potential to be a lovely time of sharing and learning about some of Chatham's past. History Walk October 10 on Little Chatham Road
The Chatham Historical Society will host a History Walk on the Little Chatham Road on Saturday, October 10, at 10 AM.
Doug Burnell, president of the Upper Saco valley Land Trust, land surveyor, and a conserved-woodland owner on Little Chatham Road, will lead the walk and talk about the geography, farmsteads and history of the area.
The Ridge Road, as it was once called, was the main way from Fryeburg, ME, to the important mills on the outlet of Upper Kimball Pond, and the settlement of Little Chatham developed back along it. The walk will cover almost a mile of this historic road, with stops at many significant landmarks along the way.
Jeanne Eastman, president of the Chatham Historical Society, said, "The stretch of weeded road used to be a busy neighborhood. Burnell will help us imagine the farms, the schoolhouse, the cattle pound and the views as we explore remaining stone structures and hear stories about the former residents."
The walk will begin at the Chathm/Conway Town Line on LIttle Chatham Road, about 1.9 miles north from the West Fryeburg Road (Rt. 113) and 2.2 miles south from Green Hill Road in South Chatham. The rain date is Sunday, October 11, at 1 PM. For more information, call (603)694-3388.

Four professional wildlife photos donated by John Rondeau will be auctioned 4 weeks in a row, one photo each week. They are professional 8X10 prints matted and framed to finished 11X14. The proceeds will benefit the Chatham NH Historical Society.
